Delivery of yet another FarmBase concrete feed barge

Delivery of yet another FarmBase concrete feed barge

Marine Construction and the Norwegian salmon farming industry

Since 1992, Marine Construction has provided technical solutions that have played a key role in increasing the efficiency and productivity of the Norwegian salmon industry.

In fact, every leading salmon-farming company in Norway, Scotland and North America has chosen to install production solutions from Marine Construction.

Marine Construction provides a wide range of products and services: steel cages, feed barges, holding cages for processing plants, the engineering of land-based facilities, and much more.

The world’s largest salmon farmer, the Marine Harvest Group, recently purchased our top-of-the-line feed barge – the FarmBase 500. We also delivered new holding cages to one of their Norwegian processing plants, and are in the midst of redesigning and installing another set of holding cages for one of their other plants, which is the world’s largest of its kind.

Such specially designed cage systems require, among other things, numerous additional installations of net handling winches mounted on the cages, floats for net movement, pump inlets and other necessary handling equipment in order to secure uninterrupted supply of live fish into the plant operation. Other major farming companies have also purchased similar holding pen solutions from us.

Today, Marine Construction is the most experienced company in its field.

For years Marine Construction has been a supplier of FarmBase feed barges to the Lerøy Seafood Group. Lerøy is the most renowned Norwegian seafood brand worldwide, and the company has an extensive salmon-farming operation in Norway.

Since last summer, their FarmBase 500 has served a facility with a production capacity of more than 5000 tonnes. The barge is equipped with a cluster of eight silos and has a 500-tonne carrying capacity.

This delivery is but one example of how Marine Construction achieves its prime business objective, which is to provide innovative solutions to improve the efficiency of production systems. Time and again we meet and exceed the expectations of our clients. This approach requires close relationships with some of today’s most demanding fish farming operators, of which the Lerøy Group is one of the most sophisticated operators.

Sanford Ltd., New Zealand: Systemfarm 30x30 delivered

Marine Construction and international deliveries

For more than 18 years, Marine Construction has been a major international supplier of steel cages. Our SystemFarm cages offer a highly flexible solution that helps ensure efficient fish farming.

SystemFarm is in use in numerous farming regions around the world and has a reputation of being second-to-none when it comes to quality and durability. Our international track record speaks clearly to the fact that Marine Construction’s SystemFarm solutions are the steel cages of choice where quality and follow-up are have top priority.

During 2009, Marine Construction completed delivery of 18 Systemfarm cages, each measuring 30x30 metres, to the New Zealand fisheries company, Sanford Ltd. Prior to ordering these cages, Sanford management visited many locations in Norway in order to familiarize themselves with the various suppliers and their products. In conclusion, they chose the SystemFarm concept from Marine Construction. We are of course very proud of that.

In August 2009, Sanford Ltd. officially opened its new farming operation. New Zealand’s Minister of Fisheries Phil Heatley had the pleasure of cutting the ribbon during the ceremony. The owner of Marine Construction, Tore H. Riple, participated in the event.

Design and engineering of land-based fish farms

Marine Construction has carried out design and engineering of several large-scale, land-based farms in recent years. We offer our expertise to clients independent of whatever suppliers of equipment or potential contractors might be involved.

Our independent approach secures our client the best possible advice in any given situation. Aquaculture projects can be quite challenging, and the client needs to know they are getting reliable answer to their many questions they have – only then can the decisions be right and the result optimal.

The projects carried out by Marine Construction are among the most successful of their kind. The latest, Atlantic Cod’s fry facility at Tjeldbergodden, Norway, has an annual capacity of 10 million fry, each weighing approx. 150 grams.
